"NINE" is a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren). The film is directed by Rob Marshall (CHICAGO). The original 1982 Broadway production of "NINE," with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, won five Tony Awards including Best Musical.

A good fusion of movie & theatre works, reality & what went through one’s mind in real time. Great songs and dances throughout. An engaging production. Music : 9 / 10, Overall : 8.5 / 10

I was a bit confused at first because it was a bit difficult to understand but I liked the singing and music. Though a warning here for parents who wants to bring their kids, they have a lot of sexual references.

I’m with "BrazoDeMercedes" on this one. Except that I DID doze off, cos I was nicely reclined in Gold Class seat... ha ha ha...

A musical on the big screen is always a little strange, can’t capture the essence of the live performance. Great music and cinematography tho but definitely not for the mainstream audience. Great acting all round.

Rob Marshall does not reach the heights of Chicago (2002), but he delivers a stylistic (and sensual) spectacle of sight and sound coupled with outstanding performances by Day-Lewis and Cortillard. The film is also edited with considerable skill. A-.
