12 Lotus explores more abstract themes like loneliness, love, and regret than 881. But it is less vibrant, and its story is less comprehensive. As a musical drama, the songs are also less catchy. The film is solid, but there’s a lack in appeal.

12 Lotus uses back the Getai background as 881, but this time the director decides to make it a serious drama, rather than a campy laugh fest. Gone are the surprises but it replaces with new injected heartbreak moment and brilliant cinematography.
